The roots of a plant define the strength of its bark. So too, do the origins of a store go back in time to that magical moment when it all began. A hundred and fifteen years ago from today, in the quiet, dusty streets of Pathergatti, Peer Mohammed Bukhari started a shop that made and sold caps, which went on to become the oldest cap mart in Hyderabad.

From those tentative steps in 1902, thirty years down the line, Peer Md Bukhari’s son, Yaqub Bukhari joined him in the business, and it had become such a well known shop, that even his wife, Waheda Begum, would help out by knitting all the caps.

In 1960, a little over a decade after India’s independence, the shop expanded when Yaqub Bukhari’s eldest son joined the family business, and forayed into new territories of cots, mattresses and mosquito nets.

Now in the 21st century, this brand of Mohammed Cap Mart has kept pace with changing times, despite being steeped in history and tradition. Define was born in 2014 under the patronage of Md. Yousuf Bukhari, the youngest son of Yaqub Bukhari. The establishment boasts a vast expanse of products, from curtains to carpets, blinds and pillows, mattresses to wallpaper, and everything one needs under their roof.

It was personally inaugurated by Ms. Sussanne Khan, the world renowned interior designer, and she has given her review of De’Fine to be “very promising, it has furnishing material to satiate different trends, their vast range will definitely impress architects and designers alike.”
